Escrow is not a badge on VENA — it is the payment rail. Here is every stage the money passes through, and what happens if the shoot doesn't.
01Booked
Search or post a request, compare offers, then book the photographer you like. Your payment is held in escrow the moment you book.
02Held, not paid out
The money sits in escrow. The photographer can see the booking is funded, but cannot draw on it.
03Session completed
The shoot happens. Everything up to this point stays inside VENA — no phone numbers change hands.
04Gallery delivered
Your photos land. Delivery is the trigger, not the calendar date.
05Released
Escrow is released to the photographer only after the session is completed and your gallery is delivered.
If plans change
Cancellation, with the policy frozen
Open the booking and choose Cancel — you see exactly what is refunded before you confirm, based on the photographer's frozen cancellation policy.
Frozen is the important word: the terms are fixed at the moment you book. Whatever the photographer changes on their profile afterwards, the deal you agreed is the deal that governs your refund.
Privacy
Phone-less by design.
VENA never asks for or stores a phone number. Photographers and clients reach each other through a privacy-safe relay, so neither side sees the other's real email — and there is no phone number to leak because none is collected.
The same applies to where people are. A freelance photographer's exact location is never published: discovery shows an approximate service zone, never a home address or precise coordinates.

Records are kept only as long as the booking, the payment, dispute windows and legally required retention periods demand — then deleted or anonymised.

How do I book a photographer?
Search or post a request, compare offers, then book the photographer you like. Your payment is held in escrow the moment you book.
When is the photographer paid?
Your money stays in escrow and is released to the photographer only after your session is completed and your gallery is delivered.
Can I cancel a booking?
Yes. Open the booking and choose Cancel — you will see exactly what is refunded before you confirm, based on the photographer's frozen cancellation policy. The policy is fixed at the moment you book, so it cannot be changed underneath you.
What is the difference between a studio and a freelancer?
A studio is a place — an established team with a space, the gear and a crew, bookable instantly from a catalog of real rates and open slots. A freelancer is a person — you post a request, compare sealed offers, and pick your pro. Both journeys end the same way: escrow-held until delivery.
How do the four pricing modes work?
